Helen’s Hyperhidrosis Recovery

My first memory of having an ‘underarm issue’ was when I started secondary school. Our school blouse was made of some nasty man-made fibre, and I remember being embarrassed at the amount I was sweating, and the accompanying smell. In sports class I sweated so much, I used to ‘bunk off’ to try to avoid the embarrassment of being so offensively sweaty and smelly around people. Normal every day living was hard enough for me, the LAST thing I wanted to do was make the problem worse by getting hotter.

Down through the years I tried every anti-perspirant known to man – these helped in that I didn’t smell so bad, but the drenching sweating continued unabated.

By the time I was in college I’d pretty much given up on the ‘she’ll grow out of it’ advice some dumb doctor had given me along the way, and I wasn’t confident enough to ever get intimate with a boyfriend.

Two years after I left college and I had a job, I discovered Botox. Every few months I’d have my underarms peppered with what seemed like hundreds of uncomfortable injections. This worked well at first – the relief! My confidence started to soar with my new-found freedom – freedom to wear exactly what I wanted, and not have to worry in an ‘intimate’ situation.

A couple of years later I was looking forward to my wedding to my fabulous boyfriend, Gerry, but the ‘underarm issue’ was becoming an issue again. Even though I’d spent thousands on Botox shots, they were only lasting a couple of months.

Gerry had heard about a radical new permanent procedure that had just received FDA approval in the States, and instead of going on a big splashy honeymoon, he suggested we go and get my ‘underarm issue’ sorted for good. (You can see why I just love this guy…).
Then as I was researching the procedure, I discovered there was a plastic surgeon performing the procedure here in Dublin – we had to check this out!

Long story short, I had my procedure in March, two months ahead of our wedding. I was in and out in an hour (on a Friday) and I was back to work on Monday.
Because I was only a day case and I didn’t have to go to the States to have the procedure done, we even had the money for our dream honeymoon in the Seychelles.

Thank you so much,  you’ve made me a free woman – no more ‘underarm issue’ ever again!
